How do I contact you?

Where are you located?

Asquith Press is located in the Digital Innovation Hub at the Toronto Reference Library. Drop in during library hours to speak to our knowledgeable staff.

Are books printed in colour?

Our printing press can print covers in full colour. Interior pages are printed in black and white. See samples of books others have printed.

Can my book have photos or illustrations?

Yes your book can be illustrated. The cover is printed in high-quality colour on an Epson Stylus (R2000) Photo Printer. Interior page images are printed in black and white on a Kyocera laser printer. For best results, convert colour images for inside pages to grayscale. Scanned images should have a resolution of at least 300 dpi and be in TIFF format.

Are there fees to print my book?

How long does it take to print my book?

Books are usually ready for pick-up in 5-10 business days after we receive your final files.

Do you have classes to help me prepare my book for printing?

Do you have computers and tools I can use to prepare my book for printing?

Yes, with a valid Toronto Public Library card, you have two options. Reserve a computer with Microsoft Word at any branch. Or reserve a digital design workstation at one of our Digital Innovation Hubs to use advanced tools. This includes Photoshop, InDesign, Adobe Acrobat, cameras, and scanners.

Do I have to use Microsoft Word to prepare my book files?

No, you can use any word processing software as long as you can export to a PDF (PDFx/1a:2001). However we only provide templates in Microsoft Word format.

How do I prepare my book files without using your templates?

Follow our updated Book Printing Guide For Authors (PDF) to prepare your book files for printing. You will have to learn about advanced document formatting. Then use our Book Printing Checklist (PDF) to verify your work.

Can I get more information about the make and model of your printing press?

Our printer is the Espresso Book Machine and is manufactured by On Demand Books.

Are there books I can download and print?

Yes, there are over 3 million books available from the Toronto Public Library's Digital Archive and On Demand Books' Catalogue. Note that some books have a content or copyright fee. We do not charge a setup fee when you print downloaded books.
