Outside the Gardens, Carlton St. was jammed from Yonge to Church Sts. with another 5,000 people who couldn't get in to hear him, but Billy Graham (left) came out to talk to them later. He said he was surprised at the turnout—"I thought on a day like this everybody would be at the lake." Graham gave crowds four rules to follow: Read the Bible everyday; pray regularly; witness to others about your faith; and go to church "where Christ is preached."

Evangelist Billy Graham spoke yesterday to crowd of 3,000 who jammed The People's Church for a special service celebrating the 60th year in the ministry of Dr. Oswald J. Smith, founder of The Peoples Church. In an interview after the service, Graham warned a "dangerous polarization" is occurring in the U.S. between extreme Right and Left political groups. He contradicted observers who have reported a decline in religion in the U.S., and claimed "there is really a revival going on," citing the success of his recent Pittsburgh crusade.
