Way Georgetown is today is the way they want to keep it; a dozen residents told the Ontario Municipal Board yesterday in an objection to council's plan to widen Main St. In foreground of photo is part of town's main business section; while in background is the two-lane section of Main St. that council planned to widen. The fate of the $220;000 road project will be decided by municipal vote.

Georgetown marks its 50th birthday; Majorettes; antique cars; bands and pipe-and-drum units take part in a half-hour parade through Georgetown to the fairgrounds yesterday; part of the celebration of the town's 50th birthday. Officially opening Georgetown's Golden Year activities; 30 runners from Georgetown High School ran a mile each in relay to carry a scroll from Queen's Park. Other events were a barbecue and folk and rock concerts.

Go transit service to Toronto from Georgetown will begin April 29; with three trains each morning and afternoon. A work train is preparing to leave the Georgetown station; which combines a 100-year-old part with brand-new GO Facilities; as a freight rumbles its way past. The GO trains will not remain overnight in Georgetown; because of the noise; but will be sent back to Toronto for maintenance.
