75 feet long but TTC still couldn't find it. Toronto Transit Commission officials started phoning all over town yesterday when the first of 164 new cars for Toronto's east-west subway didn't arrive at the Davisville subway yards for a 10 a.m. inspection. A Star photographer found it aboard this CPR flatcar in the Parkdale railway yards; tended by Bruce Smith; The CPR explained the delay by saying it had to get permission to use a CNR line into Davisville. The 75-foot aluminum car finally arrived four hours late.

A huge hole where the Spadina subway will be running some day is all that remains of Everden Rd., in the Eglinton-Bathurst area. The noise and dirt in houses Metro owns in the construction area are so bad that a Metro report recommends rent cuts of up to $46 a month. One residents says: I guess I'm just easygoing. When they start the machines at 7 in the morning. I put the pillow over my head. A neighbor with a baby has moved away.

A subway station is what this 75-year-old house on Spadina Rd.just north of Bloor St. will become. The Toronto Transit Commission has decided to use the house as an entrance to the Spadina subway line instead of demolishing it. The Toronto Historical Board had listed the house for its architectural interest and its importance to the streetscape. Toronto Mayor David Crombie calls the ruling victory.
