History

Year	Details
1993	New library to serve southeast quadrant of the City of York recommended in a Branch Feasibility study by the Randolph Group.
1994	Funding approved by Canada/Ontario Infrastructure Works Program. Properties on Oakwood Avenue at the northeast corner of Holland Park Avenue are acquired.
1996	Ground-breaking ceremony, 15 June at 11:00 a.m.
1997	City of York Public Library Board approves Resolution 97-59, “that the new library at Oakwood and Holland Park Avenues be named the ‘Oakwood Village Library and Arts Centre’, 9 April. Opened 27 September. A.J. Diamond, Donald Schmitt & Company Architects.
2007	New hours, 8 January. Hours open per week decreased from 51.5 to 50.5.

Oakwood Village Library & Arts Centre is on Indigenous land. This is the traditional territory of the Haudenosaunee (ho-den-oh-sho-nee) Confederacy (aka. the Six Nations Confederacy), the Wendat, and the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. Toronto Public Library gratefully acknowledges these Indigenous nations for their guardianship of this land. We'd also like to remind and reaffirm, as Torontonians and Canadians, our accountability to these Indigenous nations, and to all Indigenous peoples and communities living in Toronto.
