History

Year	Details
1993	New library to serve southeast quadrant of the City of York recommended in a Branch Feasibility study by the Randolph Group.
1994	Funding approved by Canada/Ontario Infrastructure Works Program. Properties on Oakwood Avenue at the northeast corner of Holland Park Avenue are acquired.
1996	Ground-breaking ceremony, 15 June at 11:00 a.m.
1997	City of York Public Library Board approves Resolution 97-59, “that the new library at Oakwood and Holland Park Avenues be named the ‘Oakwood Village Library and Arts Centre’, 9 April. Opened 27 September. A.J. Diamond, Donald Schmitt & Company Architects.
2007	New hours, 8 January. Hours open per week decreased from 51.5 to 50.5.

Oakwood Village Library & Arts Centre is on Indigenous land. This is the traditional territory of the Haudenosaunee (ho-den-oh-sho-nee) Confederacy (aka. the Six Nations Confederacy), the Wendat, and the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. Toronto Public Library gratefully acknowledges these Indigenous nations for their guardianship of this land.
