Sunny Side Up

April 2017

Sunny Side Up is a graphic novel about Sunny Lewin, a young girl who's sent to live with her grandfather in Florida for the summer. Although she's dreaming of the beach and Disney World, Sunny soon realizes that her grandfather's retirement home isn't a place for kids. Luckily, she makes a friend named Buzz, who helps keep her entertained while she deals with some problems that have been bugging her at home.

The book is written by Jennifer L. Holm, whom you might already be familiar with. Jennifer wrote the famous Babymouse series, and her brother, Matthew, illustrated the series. The siblings teamed up again for this book, and it definitely reminded me of Babymouse at times, although this book deals with topics more suitable for older kids.

I would recommend this book for grades 3 and up, and especially to anyone who likes Raina Telgemeier.
