New year, New Start
For some people a new year is a great time to try new things or to try and improve their lives in some way. Now I'm sure most of like us to think that we are "practically perfect, in every way" (just like Mary Poppins) but there's a good chance that we could all use a little more kindness in our lives.
Reading is one great way to connect with people and to learn about lives and experiences that are different from our own. Researchers have even studied how reading can help build understanding and empathy so we can better connect with others.
So why not start the New Year with some books that encourage kindness and understanding.
Here are some titles to get you started:
- Lost and Found Cat: The True Story of Kunkush's Incredible Journey by Doug Kuntz: A true story about how a lost cat is reunited with his refugee family thanks to the efforts of many people.
- The Invisible Boy by Trudy Ludwig: Nobody ever seems to notice or include Brian. But that changes when Justin moves to town.
- Out of My Mind by Sharon M. Draper: Melody may not be able to walk or talk, but she’s the smartest kid in school – and it’s time for her teachers and classmates to stop underestimating her.
