The best place to conduct searches in print Toronto city directories is the Humanities and Social Sciences Department reading room on the 2nd floor of the Toronto Reference Library. Housed on open shelves, the bound volumes are either photocopies (1833-1950) or originals (1951-2001), not microfilms, and can be viewed without requesting them from staff.

Pre-1951 original directories are fragile and may only be viewed upon staff request in the Marilyn and Charles Baillie Special Collections Centre on the 5th floor of the Toronto Reference Library.
