History

Year	Details
1956	Golden Mile Branch is opened at 29 Civic Road by the Township of Scarborough Public Library Board in January. The frame building was located in a former fuse-filling munitions factory known as GECO (General Engineering Company). The Library's reserve, overdue and bookmobile departments also are housed there.
1965	Relocated to the Eglinton Square shopping centre, southeast corner of Eglinton Avenue East and Victoria Park Avenue, end of March. The branch reopens for service on 1 April and is officially reopened by Scarborough Reeve Albert Campbell on 13 April.
1971	Name change (but not location) to Eglinton Square Branch, "in keeping with its location at 50 Eglinton Square at Victoria Park Avenue," is announced on 18 February.
1983	Relocated to its present location in a new wing of the mall, officially reopened on 18 April.
2007	New hours, 8 January. Hours open per week increased from 57 to 58.5.
2015	Open hours per week increased from 58.5 to 62, 8 September.
2016	Closed for renovation and expansion, 25 June.
2017	Reopened after renovation and expansion, 23 June.

Eglinton Square is on Indigenous land. This is the traditional territory of the Haudenosaunee (ho-den-oh-sho-nee) Confederacy (aka. the Six Nations Confederacy), the Wendat, and the Mississaugas of the New Credit First Nation. The Six Nations Confederacy), the Anishinaabek (Ah-nish-nah-bek) and allied nations, to peaceably share and care for this land, its waters, and all of the biodiversity in the Great Lakes region.
