There are countless beauty products in the market, many of which claim to do wonderful things. How are you to know which products will work a claimed? Should you be concerned about what?s in your personal care products? Chemist and science communicator Louise Hidinger, Ph.D. will cover basic concepts in chemistry and biology as they relate to beauty products. After covering these concepts, rules on how to interpret cosmetic claims and ingredients lists will be reviewed. Louise will also discuss the science behind common cosmetic ingredients that have been labelled as ?dirty? or ?toxic?, along with an overview of environmental toxins that have not yet received wider notice.

Louise Hidinger is a chemist and science communicator. She is also a registered patent agent, with more than a decade of experience working for major Canadian law firms, specializing in the fields of pharmaceuticals, biotechnology and medical devices. Louise holds a Ph.D. in biological chemistry from the University of Toronto and a post-graduate certificate in cosmetic science from De Montfort University.
