Award-winning author and editor Hadley Dyer shows young writers how to improve their writing through revision and self-editing.

Topics covered in the workshop include:
- why you need to write badly if you want to write goodly
- common problems in first drafts
- finding your voice and your characters' voices
- how to breathe life into your sentences

This workshop includes before-and-after examples of revised work, oral and/or written exercises (dependent on number of participants), and a Q&A.

Facilitator: Hadley Dyer is the author of the novels Here So Far Away, longlisted for the Stephen Leacock Medal for Humour, and Johnny Kellock Died Today, winner of the Canadian Library Association's Book of the Year for Children Award, as well as numerous acclaimed nonfiction titles for young readers. As an editor, she has collaborated with many of Canada's finest writers for children and teens, including Kenneth Oppel, Dennis Lee, Kit Pearson, Arthur Slade, Lesley Livingston, Emma Donoghue, Michael Redhill, Eric Walters, Richard Scrimger, Vicki Grant, and Alice Kuipers. She has also worked with multiple organizations that promote literacy and reading, including CODE, IBBY Canada, and the Canadian Children's Book Centre. She lives in Toronto.
