Have you learned the basics of saving and are ready to start learning how to invest? John Robertson, author of The Value of Simple, will cover the basics of investing, with a focus on index funds and the practical aspects of doing it yourself. The session will look at how to create a long-term plan that keeps things simple and manageable. Other items to be discussed include analysis paralysis, robo-advisors, TFSAs and RRSPs, the importance of investing fees, and suggested reading. This workshop is intended for beginners who are interested in learning more about investing, and how to take control themselves.

John Robertson specializes in explaining complex topics for non-specialists. He is the author of The Value of Simple: A Practical Guide to Taking the Complexity Out of Investing, and teaches regular people how to become do-it-yourself investors through an online course called Practical Index Investing for Canadians. He has been an active blogger for two decades, with a focus on personal finance, and is a co-host of the Because Money podcast.

He has a PhD in Medical Biophysics from the University of Western Ontario and works as a science writer in Toronto.
