Join us at Parkdale Branch to hear William G. Herbert read from his latest novel A Place Near the Front.

This coming of age story, described by Kirkus Reviews as
'a thoughtful reflection on race and ambition' follows Gordon, the father of the author and a teenage merchant seaman from Trinidad.

Gordon jumped ship in NYC in 1915, lived as an undocumented newcomer and served as a Buffalo Soldier in WWI. Whether dealing with the mob chasing him through the streets of Hell's Kitchen in New York, battling German soldiers, or facing his most insidious enemy - his own military commanders who resent black officers - Gordon never stops reaching for his dreams.

Reading to be followed by a discussion and Q & A session. Call 416-393-7686 for more information. Drop in. No registration required.
