At least nine men were killed, twelve are in hospital badly crushed and several others were more or less seriously injured at Lock No. 6 of the new Welland canal to-day, when a 500-ton gate collapsed as it was being placed in position by derricks. At the TOP is shown Locks No. 5 and 6 with Lock No. 7 in the background. The depth of the canal at this point is 130.8 feet, almost the sa depth as the Horseshoe Falls. At the BOTTOM is a map showing where the accident occured. [Incomplete]
