Inscribed on the stone, l.l.: PUBLISHED BY CURRIER & IVES; l.c.: Copyright 1877, by Currier & Ives, N.Y.; l.r.: 115 NASSAU ST. NEW YORK; b.: THE GREAT FIRE AT ST. JOHN, N.B. JUNE 20TH 1877. / The Fire broke out on York Point at half past two P.M. and burned furiously until after midnight, consuming several hundred / buildings among which were the Post Office, Custom House, Academy of Music, eleven churches, a number of Hotels, Banks and various / public buildings, the entire business portion of the city, and vessels at the wharves. 13 lives were lost. The total loss is estimated at $25,000,000.
