Notes

This map is based on the work of Abraham Goos done for John Speed's atlas Prospect of the most Famous Parts of the World. This is the 1663 edition of Henry Seile's 1652 map. It was re-engraved by Robert Vaughan and published by Henry's widow Anna, with some changes to the original (e.g. some names of places were changed). This maps depicts California as an island, and is the first such map to be published by a woman.
