Peter Rubens, whose name is synonymous with baroque art, returned from his travels in Italy to revitalize Flemish painting. Rubens soon became the most sought-after artist for mythological subjects, grand political allegories, and powerful altarpieces in the service of the Catholic church. Speaker, Ethan Matt Kavaler is Director of the Centre for Reformation and Renaissance Studies, University of Toronto.
