History

Year	Details
1965	Albion Mall Branch opened by the Etobicoke Public Library Board in a rented facility in the Albion Mall Shopping Centre, at 1530 Albion Road, west of Kipling Avenue, 23 October. First library in Etobicoke located in a shopping mall.
1967	Albion Mall Branch is taken over by the new Borough of Etobicoke Public Library Board formed when the Township of Etobicoke becomes part of the Borough of Etobicoke effective 1 January.
1970	Relocated to larger quarters in a renovated and enlarged Shoppers World Albion. Feasibility study conducted for a proposed district library on Albion Road.
1973	Albion District Library opened in current location, May. Matsui, Baer, Heidmin and Vanstone Architects.
2001	Learning Centre created.
2007	New hours 8 January. Hours open increased from 58 to 63.
2014	New hours 28 April. Hours open increased 63 to 65.5.
2017	Albion Branch opened in current location, June. Perkins + Will Canada Architect.

Land Acknowledgement

Albion is on Indigenous land. The Anishinaabemowin (Ah-nish-nah-be-mo-win) name for this area is Adobigok (ah-doh-bih-gok), which means the Place of the Alders.

This is the traditional territory of the Haudenosaunee (ho-den-oh-sho-nee) Confederacy (aka. the Six Nations Confederacy), the Wendat, and the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. Toronto Public Library gratefully acknowledges these Indigenous nations for their guardianship of this land.
