History

Year	Details
1971	Officially opened by the Scarborough Public Library Board, 29 September. Fairfield and Dubois Architects. Named in honour of Albert ("Ab") McTaggart Campbell, 32nd reeve of Scarborough Township (1957-67), first mayor of the Borough of Scarborough (1967-69) and third chairman of Metropolitan Toronto Council (1969-73). Campbell was born on 21 May 1910 near Ridgetown, Ontario and died on 30 August 1973 at Scarborough.
1972	Recipient of a Certificate of Architectural Merit, awarded by the Scarborough Planning Board.
1994	Weekly service hours reduced from 63.5 to 60, beginning January 4.
1996	Recipient of a Trillium Award for outstanding contribution to the beauty of Scarborough, presented by the Agincourt Garden Club, the Scarborough Historical Society, and the City of Scarborough Recreation and Parks Department.
1999	Sunday opening initiated 17 October.
2007	New hours 8 January. Hours open increased from 60 to 62.
2014	New hours 28 April. Hours open increased from 62 to 65.5.
2017	New hours with Sunday opening year-round including July and August.
2019	Branch closed for renovation on Saturday, September 28.
2022	Branch reopened on July 25. In the renovation, LGA Architectural Partners revitalized the branch’s interior public spaces, added more natural light and outdoor reading spaces, as well as made the library fully accessible.

Albert Campbell is on Indigenous land. This is the traditional territory of the Haudenosaunee (ho-den-oh-sho-nee) Confederacy (aka. the Six Nations Confederacy), the Wendat, and the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. Toronto Public Library gratefully acknowledges these Indigenous nations for their guardianship of this land. We'd also like to remind and reaffirm, as Torontonians and Canadians, our accountability to these Indigenous nations, and to all Indigenous peoples and communities living in Toronto.

This land is also part of the Dish with One Spoon territory, a treaty between the Haudenosaunee Confederacy (aka. The Six Nations Confederacy), the Anishinaabek (Ah-nish-nah-bek) and allied nations, to peaceably share and care for this land, its waters, and all of the biodiversity in the Great Lakes region.
