Publisher’s Choice

portrait of John Cruickshank

In 2009, John Cruickshank, the new publisher of the Toronto Star, decided he wanted to decorate his office walls with vibrant images of Canadian people selected from the Star’s collection of more than 1 million 20th century photographs. In the Publisher’s Choice gallery Mr. Cruickshank shares some of these photos, ranging from Canadian cultural icons to sports stars, politicians and fascinating scenes from Canadian history. You will be surprised by some images and enlightened by others, but we believe all of them will spark your curiosity to see more photos from the Toronto Star Photo Archive, donated to the Toronto Public Library in June, 2014.
