Online Payment FAQ

How do I access Online Payment?

There will be a Pay Now button in the Account Summary and Charges sections of Your Account online. The Charges section will only display if you have charges owing.

What payment method can I use to pay charges online?

Currently you can pay using any of the following credit cards:

  • Visa (including Visa Debit)
  • Mastercard
  • American Express

To pay by cash, debit card, or cheque please visit a library branch.

How do I know my payment is secure?

We make every effort to ensure that your transactions will be secure and safe. We use Beanstream, a third-party PCI Level 1 (the highest level) certified service provider, and the industry standard encryption protocol (SSL) to safeguard all of your personal information. No credit card information is stored on our servers.

Is there a minimum amount that has to be paid?

No, you can pay any amount of the total outstanding. You can also select a charge (or charges) to pay.

Is there HST?

No.

Will I get a receipt when I pay online?

Yes. You will be able to print it as soon as the transaction is complete, or have it emailed to yourself.

What happens if I get a receipt but the charges are still showing on my account?

Contact your local branch or Answerline so they can investigate.

How will the charge show on my credit card statement?

It will show as Toronto Public Library.

What if the amount I paid does not match what is on my credit card statement?

Contact your local branch or Answerline so they can investigate.

What happens if my transaction is declined?

Contact your credit card company. Your charges will still be outstanding.

Can I use my credit card to pay off another family member's charges?

Yes. Your credit card is not tied to a specific library account.

Can I pay more than one library account at the same time?

No. Library accounts must be paid individually.

If I make a payment will it be reflected in my account immediately?

Yes. If you are paying charges to unblock your card, you will be able to use it again immediately as long as any remaining charges on the account are under the threshold for card use. **Note that if your account has been sent to the Collection Agency you will need to pay the total amount owing in order to be able to use your card again.

What if I want to cancel a transaction before it is complete?

There is an option to cancel the transaction up until the credit card information is entered.

Can I pay my charges at any time of the day or night?

With the exception of regular morning system maintenance (at 6:00 a.m. for approximately 20 minutes), the service will be available at all hours.

Can I pay my charges on my smartphone or tablet?

Yes. Online payment has a new, mobile-friendly design and is now easier to use on all devices.

Why can't I sign in to download ebooks when I just paid my charges?

Your card may be expired or reported as lost. Check your Account online to see when your card expired and if you are eligible to renew it online. You may also visit any library branch to renew your card. You must visit any library branch to replace a lost card.
