Located on the fourth floor of the Toronto Reference Library, the Periodicals and Newspapers Centre collects and provides access to several thousand periodicals, magazines, academic journals, newsletters and bulletins. The collection contains both current and retrospective materials, in English and many other languages. We have a special emphasis on Canadian periodicals. The centre also offers periodical indexes and other research tools. Staff in the Periodicals Centre are pleased to provide research assistance to visitors.
The Toronto Star Newspaper Centre, in the basement of the Toronto Reference Library, receives approximately 200 newspapers, representing all the continents of the world, in over 45 languages.

The information desk is staffed by librarians who can assist you with all aspects of periodicals research. Staff can help you chose the appropriate tools to find the information you need, and guide you through the steps of searching periodical databases.

Retrieval of periodicals. Staff at the information desk will retrieve the current few years of about 75 popular titles (such as Maclean's, Newsweek and Scientific American). Most other titles are found on the open shelves, but materials from before 2000 are in storage. These older materials may be requested from the desk: retrieval time is about 15 minutes.

-
Microform printers for making copies from periodicals in microfilm format. Copies are 15 cents a page with a copy card.
