History of the Collection

 

Timeline

1973 - Rita Cox pioneers the Black Heritage and West Indian Resource Collection at Parkdale Branch.

1984 - The Collection is established at York Woods Branch.

1989 - The Collection is established at Cedarbrae Branch.

1995 - Dr. Cox retires from Toronto Public Library, having served as head of Parkdale Branch for 21 years.

1998 - The Collection is renamed the Black and Caribbean Heritage Collection.

2003 - The Collection is established at Maria A. Shchuka Branch.

2006 - The Collection is renamed the Rita Cox Black and Caribbean Heritage Collection, in honour of its founder. The Rita Cox Endowment Fund is established within the Toronto Public Library Foundation to support the enhancement and growth of the Collection.
