Donated books are sold in most branches and at Book Ends bookstores, located at the Toronto Reference Library and North York Central Library. Proceeds go toward library programs and services.
Donations are only accepted during branch open hours.
What you need to know:
We only accept material that can be resold. Donated items must meet the following criteria:
- Material must be in very good condition and less than five years old
- Only English and French books, CDs and DVDs will be accepted. For books, we prefer popular fiction and nonfiction in hardcover, mass market and trade paperbacks
- Any other material, including magazines, computer books, textbooks, encyclopaedias and multilingual material will not be accepted by staff
If your materials don't meet these criteria please consider donating them to other non-profit organizations. Check out the City of Toronto's ReUseIt Guide.
Please note that we do not add donated material to the collection and do not issue tax receipts for donations. Tax receipts are only issued through the Toronto Public Library Foundation for large or valuable donations.
