Setting the Stage: 20 Years of Design for Opera Atelier
About the Exhibit
Toronto Public Library, in partnership with Opera Atelier, presents an exhibition of designs, photographs, costumes, props and prints to celebrate 20 years of design by Opera Atelier. The exhibition traces the company's design process beginning with Orfeo in 1986, followed by Pygmalian, Persée, The Magic Flute, Médée, Iphigénie en Tauride and Armide and more.
Gallery Programming:
Designer Gerard Gauci will be present on Thurs. Mar. 16 at 5:30 and Sat. Apr. 8 at 2:00 to give an artist talk and guided tour of the exhibition.
Opera Atelier artists will perform at the launch of the On Stage Program on Fri. Apr. 21 at 7:30 at Toronto Reference Library in the atrium.
Opera Atelier holds a unique place in the North American theatre community, producing opera, ballet and drama performances that draw upon the aesthetics and ideals of the 17th and 18th centuries.
Featuring acclaimed international soloists, period ballet (Artists of Atelier Ballet), original instruments, elaborate stage décor, exquisite costumes and most importantly, an imaginative energy, Toronto-based Opera Atelier has attained international recognition.
Opera Atelier's 20th-anniversary exhibition features the set and prop designs of Gerard Gauci and production photographs by Bruce Zinger, supplemented by prints, books and set designs from the Toronto Reference Library.
