Insurance Coverage for Art Exhibits
The Library offers 2 categories of limited insurance coverage for theft, fire, smoke and water damage:
Without Written Appraisal
- Maximum of $500 for a single item and not exceeding $1500 for the whole exhibit.
- Exhibitor must provide a list of the exhibit's estimated value, for example; a price list.
- The Library accepts the estimated value of the exhibit which is referenced in the contract signed between the exhibitor and the Library.
With Written Appraisal
- Maximum of $1500 for a single item and not exceeding $10,000 for the whole exhibit.
- Exhibitor must provide a list of the items' estimated value, for example; a price list.
- Exhibitor must provide written evidence of the exhibits value by submitting one or more of the following:
- An exhibit catalogue featuring priced and comparable works from a previous exhibit
- Evidence of the sale price obtained for comparable works by the exhibiton
- Independent professional appraisal of the item(s)
- The Library accepts the estimated value of the exhibit which is referenced in the contract signed between the exhibitor and the Library.
Note:
- The Library reserves the right to request, at any time, additional or alternative evidence to support the Library's provision of insurance. This includes a request for an expert written appraisal.
- If at any time the Library considers that displaying all or part of an exhibit exceeds a reasonable level of liability, the Library reserves the right to:
- decline to display the item(s) or the entire exhibit
- decline to insure the item(s) or the entire exhibit
- require written evidence that the exhibitor has independent insurance covering the value of the item(s) and/or the entire exhibit
- retract in writing the Library's insurance liability
- require the prompt removal of any item(s) or the entire exhibit from its premises
