CSI Shakespeare: Investigating the Portraits of William Shakespeare
Drawing on the traditions of portraiture in Elizabethan England and on 21st-century art conservation, Dr. Jane Freeman, Stratford Shakespeare Festival's Board of Governors, discusses what we know about the newly discovered portraits of the Bard and how we know it. She will present several famous – and some not so famous – portraits of Shakespeare and help separate the fakes from the contenders.

Humanitarian, international peacemaker and author Greg Mortenson (Three Cups of Tea) discusses his new book Stones into Schools, a chronicle of his efforts to build schools in rural Afghanistan and Pakistan. Tickets are $10 and will be available Dec. 1. All ticket proceeds go to Pennies for Peace to help build a school in Afghanistan, and to Toronto Public Library Foundation to help enhance literacy programs at Toronto’s Library.

Attention High School and College Teachers

Book a customized subject research session at the Toronto Reference Library. Sessions run from 30 minutes to one hour. Our librarians introduce students to a wide variety of print and electronic media, including the Virtual Reference Library, special collections, databases, indexes, books and encyclopedias. Contact us at least two weeks in advance by calling the Toronto Reference Library Le@rning Centre at 416-393-7209.

Registering for Tours and Programs

Call us at 416-393-7209 to register for a tour or program. We ask you to let us know if you will not be able to attend a workshop for which you have registered. Space is limited and other people may be able to attend in your place.

Group visits may be booked by phoning us or faxing a registration form at least two weeks prior to the date of your visit. Please ensure that your selection of a tour or program is compatible with group size, day and date of your visit. If program dates or times are not suitable, please contact us and we will attempt to accommodate your group.
