Ana Gribbons
Paintings: By the water's edge
September
Ana Gribbons is a Toronto artist who delights in painting nature scenes with water such as marshes, streams, ponds, and lakes. Water is essential to life and it is also very beautiful. Living in a huge metropolis, Ana wishes to convey the serenity and beauty of nature that is still all around us.
She has exhibited her paintings in galleries and art fairs and is a member of Artist's Network, Women's Art Association and Visual Arts Ontario.

Peter Hastings
Paintings
October
Peter Hastings is a Toronto based artist who’s paintings portray what he refers to as “Urban Mountains”
"Daily I see what I call urban mountains. I look at streets and down laneways and see little piles of garbage and refuse that are full of colour, energy and texture – self-contained compositions.
mountain studies."
Debris such as plastic, old wood and wire play an integral role in his "constructed" paintings. By combining previously painted remnants with paint - which he then sand, glue, cut, wipe, smudge or scrape – his work achieves a rich sculptural quality.

Jennifer Smithwell
Artwork
November
By painting directly from nature I can soak in the feelings of place - the warm glow, the rich colors and feelings. Using acrylic paint outside means you have to paint quickly and this encourages a spontaneity that is more successful in catching fleeting moments than a more belaboured approach. I love to capture the glow and intensity of light that pulls my eye. I find that richer colors give a vibrancy and raw emotional depth to a piece that feels more authentic to me than more photorealistic works.

Robert Wu
Watercolours
December
Marbling is the process of floating watercolour inks on the surface of a liquid size. With the aid of combs, rakes and a stylus, the colours are stretched and combed into many different designs. A sheet of paper treated with chemical is next laid onto the bath to pick up the colour from water to paper and you have an instant “print”. Marblized papers have been used throughout the centuries in Europe by bookbinders, calligraphers and in the printing trade. Apart from the practical, I push the boundary of conventions and create my own “Marbled Graphics” art pieces. By painting on water, I create original watercolour marbling designs with contemporary feel by employing centuries-old technique.
