Kennedy/Eglinton Branch to Undergo Renovation & Expansion
New Branch to be almost 70% larger and house new ProTech Media

On Saturday November 22, at 5 p.m., Kennedy/Eglinton Branch will close for a renovation and expansion. When the library reopens in 2009 it will be almost 70% larger and house Toronto Public Library's first ProTech Media Centre.*

The Kennedy/Eglinton Branch renovation and expansion project will:

  • Expand the branch from 3,854 to 6,500 square feet, an increase of almost 70%.
  • House the Eglinton East / Kennedy Park ProTech Media Centre.*
  • Increase the size of the program room.
  • Create a full range neighbourhood library, one that is especially youth-friendly.
  • Create a dedicated teen lounge with computers.
  • Provide new wireless Internet access.
  • Add additional public PC workstations.
  • Enhance the children's area.
  • Add interior and exterior book-drops for library material returns.
  • Add express check-out.

*The ProTech Media Centre is a new innovative partnership between Toronto Public Library, City of Toronto, Microsoft Canada and the Toronto Community Housing Corporation that will provide youth with free access to and instruction in urban media arts programming.

The renovation and expansion of Kennedy/Eglinton Branch is part of Toronto Public Library's ongoing building revitalization plan. In 2008, Torontonians benefited from the renovations of Jane/Dundas Branch, Cliffcrest Branch, S. Walter Stewart Branch and Dufferin/St.Clair Branch. Upcoming renovations and reopenings include Jane/Sheppard Branch, Kennedy/Eglinton Branch, Bloor/Gladstone Branch and Thorncliffe Branch, all in 2009.
