Brentwood Branch Scheduled for Renovation & Expansion

Members of the public are invited to help shape the upcoming renovation and expansion of Brentwood Branch by sharing their opinions at an open house on Thursday, June 12, 2008 between 5:00 and 7:00 p.m.

Date: Thursday, June 12, 2008
Time: Drop in between 5:00 and 7:00 p.m.
Place: Brentwood Branch, 36 Brentwood Road North (off Bloor Street West, West of Royal York Road)

Toronto Public Library staff and architects from Diamond + Schmitt Architects Inc will be on hand to present preliminary ideas for the renovation and expansion and to listen to comments from the public. Members of the public who are unable to attend the meeting can fill out a comment form, available at the branch or online.

Scheduled to commence in 2009, the renovation and expansion will feature:

  • Expanded public service and collection space from 13,615 to 17,500 square feet, an increase of almost 4,000 square feet.
  • A newly created urban living room with current popular reading and audio visual materials (including Bestsellers, CDs, Magazines and DVDs).
  • An elevator and new washrooms for full accessibility.
  • A Computer Le@rning Centre.
  • A larger, fully accessible meeting room with kitchen facilities.
  • Quiet study rooms.
  • Additional public computer workstations.
  • More lounge and collection space.
  • A teen zone.
  • Express check-out.
  • Wireless Internet access.

The upcoming renovation and expansion of the Brentwood Branch is part of Toronto Public Library's ongoing building revitalization plan. In 2008, Torontonians will benefit from the reopening of six branches: Jane/Dundas (opened Feb 4), Cliffcrest (opened April 3), S. Walter Stewart (opened May 29), Dufferin/St.Clair (opening after a major renovation in September), and in the Fall of 2008, Jane/Sheppard and Kennedy/Eglinton.
