On Saturday March 1, at 5 p.m., Cliffcrest Branch will close to relocate to a different unit in the same plaza. When the library reopens in April 2008, it will be 75% larger.
The new Cliffcrest Branch will:
- Expand the branch's space from 2,800 to 4,900 square feet
- Feature recent, popular reading and audio visual materials (including bestsellers, CDs, magazines and DVDs), displayed on new open-facing "browsable" shelving, creating Toronto Public Library's first "browsing branch".
- Introduce new wireless Internet access and additional public PC workstations.
- Add a public meeting and program room that doubles as quiet study space.
- Add new space for exhibiting local art.
- Add reading lounges for adults, teens and children.
- Add interior and exterior book-drops for quick library material returns.
- Add express check-out.
The relocation of Cliffcrest Branch is part of Toronto Public Library's ongoing building revitalization plan. In 2008, Torontonians will benefit from the reopening of seven branches:
Jane/Dundas (opened Feb 4), Cliffcrest (reopening in April), S. Walter Stewart (opening after a major renovation in May), Dufferin/St.Clair (opening after a major renovation in August), and reopening in the Fall of 2008, Bloor/Gladstone (after a major renovation and expansion), and Jane/Sheppard and Kennedy/Eglinton (after relocations and expansions).
Architect for Relocation and Expansion:
