Kennedy/Eglinton Branch Scheduled for
Renovation & Expansion

Larger Branch to Have Many Service Enhancements

Members of the public are invited to help shape the upcoming renovation and expansion of Kennedy/Eglinton Branch by sharing their opinions at a community consultation meeting on Thursday, May 1, 2008 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Time: Drop in between 5:00 and 7 p.m.

Kennedy/Eglinton Branch, Liberty Square Shopping Plaza, 2380 Eglinton Avenue East

Toronto Public Library staff and architect Jenny Hung from G. Bruce Stratton Architects Inc. will be on hand to unveil plans for the renovation and expansion. Members of the public who are unable to attend the meeting can fill out a comment form, available at the branch or online.

Scheduled for completion by December 2008, the Kennedy/Eglinton Branch will:

  • Expand the branch from 3,854 to 6,482 square feet, an increase of 60%.
  • Increase the size of program room
  • Enhance the library's ability to participate in community partnerships and deliver programming relevant to youth
  • Introduce new Media Lab
  • Introduce new wireless Internet access
  • Add additional public pc workstations
  • Enhance the children's area
  • Add a new teen zone
  • Add interior and exterior book-drops for library returns
  • Add express check-out.

The renovation and expansion of Kennedy/Eglinton Branch is part of Toronto Public Library's ongoing building revitalization plan. In 2008, Torontonians will benefit from the reopening of seven branches: Jane/Dundas (opened Feb 4), Cliffcrest (opened April 3), S. Walter Stewart (opening May 28), Dufferin/St.Clair (opening after a major renovation in August), and in the Fall of 2008, Bloor/Gladstone, Jane/Sheppard and Kennedy/Eglinton.
