Dial-a-Story
416-395-5400

Children can listen to stories over the telephone in English, French, Cantonese, Gujarati, Italian, Mandarin, Polish, Portuguese, Spanish, Somali, Tamil and Urdu. We're always adding more languages. Choose stories for young children (up to age 7) or stories for older children. It's available 24 hours a day.

A Free Summer Program for Young Newcomers

English Can Be Fun prepares newcomer children for school in September. The program supports English language skills in children, ages 7-13, with games and learning activities and introduces them and their families to library services. Classes are held twice a week, in 1.5 hours per session. Registration is required and starts in June. For locations, check the list of libraries below.

For parents, the library offers English as a Second Language for adults.

Leading to Reading

Leading To Reading is a free program for children in grades 1 to 6 who can communicate in English. Children who are reading below their grade level can join the program to practise their reading and writing and also receive help with homework-related skills.
