On Saturday November 22, at 5 p.m., Kennedy/Eglinton Branch closed for renovation and expansion. The branch re-opens Thursday, June 25, 2009 at 12 noon.
The drop box is closed during the renovation. Holds have been sent to Eglinton Square Branch - other nearby branches are Albert Campbell and McGregor Park. Bookmobile service will start Thursday, Nov. 27, 10:15-11:15, in the plaza parking lot and continue weekly during the closure. Work is expected to be completed in 2009.
The renovation will:
- Expand the branch from 3,854 to 6,500 square feet, an increase of almost 70%.
- House the Eglinton East / Kennedy Park ProTech Media Centre.*
- Increase the size of the program room.
- Create a full range neighbourhood library, one that is especially youth-friendly.
- Create a dedicated teen lounge with computers.
- Provide new wireless Internet access.
- Add additional public PC workstations.
- Enhance the children's area.
- Add interior and exterior book-drops for library material returns.
- Add express check-out.
*The ProTech Media Centre is a new innovative partnership between Toronto Public Library, City of Toronto, Microsoft Canada and the Toronto Community Housing Corporation that will provide youth with free access to and instruction in urban media arts programming.
