Historical Background

1964
Richview library, anticipated by the Township of Etobicoke Public Library Board to open in 1966, "will do much to ensure more adequate library service north of the Richview Side Road," (now Eglinton Avenue West).

1966
Officially opened by the Etobicoke Public Library Board, October 16. Building included a regional library and Etobicoke Public Libraries' administrative headquarters (administration, business office, technical services, publicity and promotion, branch maintenance, and bookmobile services). Dunlop, Wardell, Matsui, Aitken Architects.

1967
Richview Branch is taken over by the new Borough of Etobicoke Public Library Board formed when the Township of Etobicoke becomes part of the Borough of Etobicoke effective 1 January. The new library system consists of ten libraries.

It is the focus of the teletype installations.

1983
Administration relocated to Silver Creek Elementary School, Hartsdale Drive

1984
Closed for renovation, spring. Stinson, Montgomery & Sisam Architects.

1985
Reopened 2 January.

2001
User Education Centre opened July.

2002
Refurbished. Closed 3 June to 17 June.

2006
Closed for heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) system renovation 14 May to 2 October.

2007
New hours, 8 January. Open hours per week increased from 58 to 63.
