Historical Background

1921
Association Library established.

1923
New Toronto Public Library Board , established February. Assets of the New Toronto Association Library transferred to it. Library located in rented quarters on Lake Shore Boulevard.

1928
New building opened, February. Two local citizens, Mayor William Jackson and Mr. Alan King, had donated the site on Eleventh Street.

1941
Addition for Children's wing opened, 22 January. Named the Ina M. Keesee Children's Library for a long-time supporter of library service in New Toronto.

1954
Addition for a reference and reading room.

1967
New Toronto Public Library Board taken over by the Etobicoke Public Library Board with the amalgamation of the Town of New TOronto with the Township of Etobicoke becoming the Borough of Etobicoke.

1993
Building demolished.

1994
Building reconstructed, 3 November. Moffat Kinoshita Architects.

2005
Hours open per week increased from 37 hours to 40 hours, 6 September.

2006
Closed 25 June for repainting, new carpet and shelf ends; landscaping done by Etobicoke Horticultural Society; enlarged Teen Zone with seating. Re-opened 11 July.
