Historical Background

1913
Bylaw establishing the Mimico Public Library Board approved by local voters, 1 January.

1914
Toronto's Carnegie Libraries - Mimico
Carnegie Corporation of New York granted $7,500 to Mimico Public Library Board to construct a public library, 26 February. Site at Station Road and Stanley Avenue donated by Mimico Council.

1915
Mimico Public Library opened 2 March.

1966
New Mimico Centennial Library officially opened, 20 November. Banz, Brook, Carruthers, Grierson, Shaw Architects. Recipient of Massey Medal for Architecture, 1966. "The old [Carnegie] building was levelled within days of the Official Opening." (EPL History)

1967
Mimico Public Library Board taken over by the Etobicoke Public Library Board with the amalgamation of the Town of Mimico with the Township of Etobicoke becoming the Borough of Etobicoke.

2005
Hours open per week increased from 37 hours to 40 hours, 6 September.
