Branch History


1951 "A deposit station has been set up in the Thistletown school to serve the Thistletown area." [Etobicoke Public Library Chairman's Report (G.C. Mainprize) 1951].
1952 A bookmobile stop is provided at Malton Road (now Rexdale Boulevard) and Concession 1 (Kipling Avenue) on Saturdays, 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
1957 A site is secured at Kipling and Hinton Avenues in Rexdale, where Etobicoke Township Public Library plans to open its fourth branch.
1958 Kinsmen's Club of Humber Valley offers to help purchase books and furniture for the children's section of the new Rexdale Branch.
1959 Opened at 1595 Kipling Avenue North by the Etobicoke Public Library Board, 12 November.
1967 Rexdale Branch is taken over by the new Borough of Etobicoke Public Library Board formed when the Township of Etobicoke becomes part of the Borough of Etobicoke effective 1 January. The new library system consists of ten libraries.
1991 Renovated and temporarily closed for approximately six weeks. Official re-opening celebrations was held on 5 October.
