Branch History


1966 Scarborough Public Library Board provides new bookmobile stops at Bennett Plaza (Bennett Road and Lawrence Avenue) and St. Martin de Porres School (230 Morningside Avenue), 3 January. Scarborough Council approves $ 70,000 for a branch library in West Hill - May.
1968 Opened by the Scarborough Public Library Board in Morningside Plaza, February, south side of Kingston Road near the intersection of Morningside and Lawrence Avenues.
1978 Morningside Plaza demolished for new three-storey enclosed mall. Branch closed 7 to 14 June for move to a temporary location at 4521 Kingston Road, east of Morningside Avenue.
1979 Reopened 29 November in leased space on third floor of new Morningside Mall. Architects, Adams Associates.
1992 Reduction of weekly service hours from 64 to 63, 4 January. (Saturday closure at 5 p.m. rather than 6 p.m.)
1994 Reduction of weekly service hours from 63 to 57, 5 July.
1995 Closed 5 September for relocation to larger, more accessible leased space on the second floor of Morningside Mall. Reopened 2 October. Architect, Moffat Kinoshita.
2005 Closed for reconstruction and relocation 25 June. WGA Wong Gregersen Architects Inc. Bookmobile service provided 1.5 hours per week at parking lot of Heron Park Community Recreation Centre, 292 Manse Road.
2006 Reopened 30 May 2006 at 4279 Lawrence Ave. E. (West of Manse Road, next to the Heron Park Community Recreation Centre).
2007 New hours starting 8 January. Number of open hours per week unchanged.
