Branch History


1925 Humber Bay Association Library formed. Library located in a various temporary quarters at High Street and Grand Avenue schools.
1930 Site for a library on the south side of the Queensway donated by Dr. F.J.A. Davidson; plans for library building donated by his son, an architect.
1946 Library site sold to the Ontario Government for part of the new Ontario Food Terminal. Etobicoke Council gave its first grant for the library at Humber Bay. Its status changed to a School Section Library.
1948 Site on Park Lawn Road purchased and plans for a library prepared.
1949 Bylaw establishing the Township of Etobicoke Public Library Board approved by local voters, 5 December.
1950 Humber Bay School Section Library Board transferred its assets (including the Park Lawn site and the library building plans) to the new Etobicoke Public Library Board.
1951 Humber Bay Branch Library opened, 6 January. Building also used as headquarters for the Etobicoke Public Library.
1955 Headquarter for Etobicoke Public Library relocated to new Brentwood Library.
1958 An addition of 800 square feet is started in September and completed by 1 December. It provides a separate and larger area for boys and girls and increased space for other activities.
1967 Humber Bay Branch is taken over by the new Borough of Etobicoke Public Library Board formed when the Township of Etobicoke becomes part of the Borough of Etobicoke, effective 1 January.
1996 Closed for refurbishment 25 August. Stephen Teeple Architect.
1997 Reopened, 31 January.
2005 Hours per week increased from 37 hours to 40 hours, 6 September.
2007 New hours, 8 January. Number of open hours per week unchanged.
