Branch History


1951 Bookmobile service for the Alderwood neighbourhood is provided by the Township of Etobicoke Public Library Board at two stops, one at Albright and No. 27 Highway (now Brown's Line) and another on Horner Avenue, one block east of No. 27.
1953 Etobicoke Public Library Board considers building a library in Alderwood to meet public demand.
1958 Alderwood Branch opened at 525 Horner Avenue by the Township of Etobicoke Public Library Board, 23 January. Dunlop, Wardell, Matsui and Aitken, Architects.
1983 Refurbished
1999 Horner Avenue building closed, 27 November. Library reopened by the Toronto Public Library Board in the new Alderwood Centre, 20 December. Centre constructed in partnership with the Toronto District School Board (to house Sir Adam Beck School), the City of Toronto Parks and Recreation Department, and the Alderwood Action Day Care. G. Bruce Stratton Architects.
1999 Service hours expanded by 10 additional hours per week, 20 December
2005 Hours open per week increased from 47 hour to 48 hours, 6 September.
2007 New hours, 8 January. Hours per week increased from 48 to 50.5.
