Forest Hill Library Association resolved to transfer its library to a public library board, and requested Council to establish same, 18 March. Village of Forest Hill Public Library established 28 April (By-Law 2655). Forest Hill Public Library Board held its first meeting at Forest Hill Municipal Offices, 333 Lonsdale Road on 23 September. |
1955 |
Village of Forest Hill Public Library officially opened 5 December. Located in Forest Hill’s new Works Department Garage and Stores Building, 329 Chaplin Crescent, southwest corner of Spadina Road. |
1956 |
As of November in its first year of operations, Forest Hill Public Library had 284 borrowers in a population of 19,193; 4,488 volumes that circulated 770 times; and was open 28 hours a week. It received funding of 62 cents per capita from the municipality and a provincial legislative grant of $1,580. Its total operating expenses were $17,235 with $485 spent on salaries (there was one professional librarian - Mrs. W. A. (Katherine Secord) McNair) and $10,733 on books. |

Village of Forest Hill Public Library Board held its final meeting, December 8, in the Katherine Secord McNair Room of the library. |

Taken over by Toronto Public Library Board, 1 January, with the amalgamation of the Village of Forest Hill to the City of Toronto. |

Learning Resource Centre opened in former Village of Forest Hill Civic Centre. |
1969 |
Retrofitted to allow public access from library to Learning Resources Centre. |

Film Department established. Located at Learning Resources Centre. |
1975 |
Learning Resources Centre closed; staircase connecting it to the library removed. Film Department relocated to Northern District Library. |

Reduction of leased space from 14,399 sq. ft. to 10,399 sq. ft. Retrofitted, C.A. Ventin, Architects. 19 September to 19 October. No closure required. |
