Celestial Excursions: A Music and Theatre Performance

Sun Nov 26, 2017
3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
60 mins

Scarborough Civic Centre Library is seeking youth/emerging and senior artists for an experimental music and theatre workshop on Sundays in November 2017. The workshops will be lead by interdisciplinary artists Christopher Willes and Evan Webber, associate artists with Toronto's award winning performance company Public Recordings.

Participants will explore experimental text works by renowned American composer Robert Ashley, which center around vocal explorations of landscape, language and the musicality of speaking aloud. The workshops will focus on Ashley?s piece ?Celestial Excursions?, which features five characters representing various elder voices. Working in close collaboration, this workshop will consider how character develops through the speaking voice, the speaking voice as part of a musical score, vocal processing with electronics, basic musical improvisation, and the simple joy of reading as a group.

No musical experience necessary!

A public performance will conclude the process on November 26th.

Deadline: Monday October 16th, 2017

Youth / Emerging and senior (65+) artists are encouraged to apply.

Priority will be given to persons living in Scarborough.

Participants will receive a performance honorarium.
