On the 5th floor of the Toronto Reference Library, this unique collection consists of more than one million images clipped from books, magazines, calendars and other sources. Images are filed under 32,000 subject headings and include:
- Period studies
- Reproductions of artists' works
Pictures may be borrowed for a three-week period and renewed twice. All Picture Collection material must be returned to the circulation desk at the Toronto Reference Library during library hours.
A reference book collection focuses on illustrated design elements, including trademarks, logos, letterforms, borders and copyright free pictures.
A reference collection of more than 50,000 early 20th century to present day international postcards includes city and country scapes, as well as public buildings such as restaurants, hotels, schools, and railroad stations. Holiday and other celebratory occasions such as Halloween, Valentine's Day and St. Patrick's Day are also featured.
