This
card lets you borrow library materials, gain access to library electronic
resources and pay for some library charges.
The card belongs to the Toronto Public Library Board. It must be returned
upon request.
The cardholder is the person registered with Toronto Public Library.
The card cannot be transferred.
Borrowing privileges will be suspended if you exceed prescribed use
limits.
You must let the library know of any changes to your name, address
or phone number as soon as possible.
Cards are renewed annually.
Signing the Card
Signing the card means you accept responsibility for yourself, or
your child, for the choice, use and return of all library materials.
You also agree to pay all overdue fines and charges for lost or damaged
items and to comply with all library rules and policies. Rules and policies
are available on request.
Customers 13 years of age or older must sign their cards upon registration.
Customers 12 years of age or younger must have their cards signed
by their parent or guardian.
Children have access to all library resources except where limited
by law.
Adding Value
Library cards are issued with no monetary value.
You can purchase value and use it to pay fines or other library charges.
Magnetic fields can erase purchased value from the card. To prevent
this, keep the card away from magnetic-card keys, magnetic wallet clasps
or other strong magnetic fields.
Purchased value is not refunded.
Loss or Theft
Tell us immediately if your library card is lost or stolen.
You are responsible for materials borrowed on your card until you
tell us it is lost.
To get a replacement card you must provide identification, including
your name and address, and pay a replacement fee.
Value added to a lost card is not refunded.
Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy
Personal information is collected under the authority of the
Public Libraries Act and is used in the administration of library
operations in the City of Toronto.
Personal information is protected from unauthorized disclosure under
the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection
of Privacy Act.
Mailings to fundraise for library programs, collections and services
may be sent to cardholders if they authorize it.
