Fees and Charges

All basic services are free to Toronto residents, including borrowing of library materials, information services and access to electronic resources in the library. The fees and charges listed here are governed by the library's Circulation and Collection Use Policy.

Adult, Senior

$.30 per day, per item;
$12.00 maximum per item, for each loan period

Teen

$.15 per day, per item;
$6.00 maximum per item, for each loan period

Child

$.10 per day, per item;
$4.00 maximum per item, for each loan period

Unresolved Accounts

Unresolved accounts may be sent to a collection agency. A non-refundable $10.00 administrative fine will be charged to adult borrowers whose accounts are sent to a collection agency.


Each renewal is considered another loan period.

If fees are charged by the lending library, these fees are passed along to the customer. Lost or damaged material is charged to the customer at the replacement cost established by the owning library system.

Meeting Rooms, Auditioriums, Theatres

Note: Prices are effective for bookings on or after April 1, 2003.

Toronto Public Library guarantees the right of free expression by making available its auditoriums, meeting rooms and theatres to all individuals, groups and organizations whose programs are consistent with the intent of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, the Ontario Human Rights Code and the Ontario Anti-Racism Policy.

  • Rates quoted are for the open hours of the requested library. Security costs of $20.00/hr will apply for all groups renting space outside the hours of operation of the respective location. There may be an additional charge for security/custodial services.
  • All rates include GST.
  • $30 set-up and breakdown fee standard for all users at Toronto Reference Library. Rates at Toronto Reference Library apply to Beeton Auditorium, Beeton (East) Meeting Room and Beeton (West) Meeting Room.
  • Other equipment available at some locations for an additional charge:
    Kitchen: $10.00/hr
    Piano: $15.00/hr
    Overhead projector and screen: $5.00
